The planned community of Aliso Viejo, CA, is located in southern Orange County, adjacent to Laguna Beach. As the county’s newest city— the only one incorporated since 2000— Aliso Viejo covers close to seven square miles, with a population of roughly 51,000 people.

The 6,600 acres of land that became Aliso Viejo were once part of the much larger Moulton Ranch. The acreage was purchased in 1976 to create the new plan for Aliso Viejo, including 20,000 homes for a projected population of 50,000 residents. This was California’s first planned community to consider a work-life balance in terms of the proximity of homes and offices. Every original home in Aliso Viejo was built within two miles of Pacific Park, an expansive business and office center. More than 93 percent of voters favored incorporation in 2001.
